A friend, antisocial and not talking to people most of the time, broke the habits of a lifetime and traded, buying a Sword for 5k, only to find it was customized. Of course it's something that should be considered when buying, but it sucks big-time. We shouldn't need banning - we should have the option to follow that player and smack him up and nick all his gear
Banning is actually hard without proof. In this case he could easily be fairly banned as my friend had an item saying it was customized for someone else. If transactions were logged on the servers it'd be easy for a mod to force the transfer back, giving the scumball his lousy sword and refunding my mates cash. |

Shifty, isn't that your friend's fault for not checking it first?

Yes and no. 'Let the buyer beware' of course, but on the other hand someone advertising a sword knowing knowone else can use it is a deliberate con. Plus a lot of people don't know about customization being limited. That was the first trade he'd ever done with anyone and it never occured to him to check that was an issue, no knowing customized gear was no use to him.
People that get suckered by con artists in real life (say phoney Gas-men reading the meter will someone else nicks the video) can be thought of as needing to be more careful, but at the end of the day it's the con artists fault. Anyone deliberately misleading people to make money, even on a game, is up to mischief isn't contributing to a fun, pleasant environment. |

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Your friend should have been more careful and will be in the future. That said, there is nothing wrong with selling a customized weapon because the customization doesn't keep you from salvaging it for raw materials. Sure you can't wield it, but it's pretty obvious when something has been customized, it's not like the seller could hide that.

I'd say if you are doing runs to Droknar's or anywhere, to ask for the gold upfront because of scamming. If they don't want to do it oh well. I guess that might also be a potential for scamming as well. A lot of people take half the gold half-way to Droknars and the rest when they get there. I guess there really isn't a fool proof way of doing it. Always comes down to trust. Sucks.

my 2 cents on this thread.....
Someone used an example there of a phoney gas man or something. That's not a good comparison. A better comparison would be a group of Cubans trying to flee to America(God knows why anyone would want to live in the states). One person says "take me too please". He pays for his spot on the boat and as he walks down the dock to board the boat, it suddenly departs leaving him stranded in Cuba and now broke. Does anyone see the problem here? You are trying to pay someone for something that isn't really meant for you to do in the game anyway. As for scamming in trade, I don't know how anyone can get scammed in trade as you can see what's in the window before you accept. I myself hae been run to Droknars with my second character since I had the money to spend. Instead of getting scammed or scamming myself, I actually offered the person more than they asked for more incentive for them to not scam. I feel that it's your choice to take out some of the challenge of the game by doing those drok runs, but you are still doing something in the game that really wasn't meant for you to do so if you get scammed doing it, you learn. People that should be banned are botters, spammers and item hackers. Just my thoughts. |

I presume when you say being scammed for something you're not supposed to do, you talking solely about Running, right? Or are you saying people should be trading items and my friend wouldn't have got scammed if he wasn;t doing something he shouldn't have??

Running people past warp points for pay is clandestine economics ploy that is argued as being legit because "it is in the game". No, it is exploiting the code "of the game", just like "hacks, and bots", and is only "in the game" due to oversight on the part of ANET. Semantics kill your arguments with your own comments. |

Lol... First rule of Buying is look at the item before you buy it! Bottom like. As for being ran to the forge and getting riped off. Next time get a guildy to do it, or find someone that will except payment out side of the camp or outside of the forge. As an added note If you see a runner from the [TTT] guild you can trust them. They charge a standerd 2k do at Camp Ranik.

*****SECTION DELETED BY tegrof TO AVOID A FLAME WAR*******
except this part.... RELAX...and if you need it in soldier form....RELAX MAGGOT! As for the trade thing, your friend should have looked at the item before hitting the accept button. That's hardly being scammed. He had every chance to look at the item before giving his money away. He just made a mistake that he won't make again.
